Are Dental Implants Right For You?
Having dentures can be frustrating, so if you’re missing one or more of your teeth, you might want to ask us about getting dental implants. Dental implants can often feel and look more natural because they are attached directly to your jawbone. In order to benefit from dental implants, you must be generally physically healthy and have a fully developed jawbone. Healthy gums and a healthy jawbone are required in order to support dental implants.
If you are healthy, we can schedule the procedure to occur at our office under local anesthesia, or even at a hospital where general anesthesia can be used. This all depends on your specific dental health and the amount of implants you are getting.
However, implants do not work for everyone. Women who are pregnant, people with chronic illness or immunosuppressed, children, and people who grind or clench their teeth are often not good candidates for dental implants. Immunosuppression can result in infection during the surgery, children’s jawbones are still developing, and those who grind their teeth might put too much pressure on their implants.
If you are healthy and choose to get dental implants, make sure that you follow all of your dentist’s instructions to maintain a healthy, consistent daily oral hygiene routine. It is important that you keep your new implants clean and healthy following your surgery.
